![]() Spirit has a funny way of putting what you need right in your path. Before Baby Girl was born, Don and I decided we wanted a photographer to come out to get some newborn shots. We’d been talked about it for some time and looked at images we’d like to recreate, but never decided upon a photographer. That is until one morning (still more than a month before my due date) when the urge struck me and I began researching newborn photographers in the Buffalo area like a fiend. I did one google search after another, changing keywords until I hit that sweet spot. And then, as with any good research, I found myself checking out portfolio after portfolio; resume after resume. I was on a mission. The fact that I had a meeting that morning didn’t derail me. I was determined to pick a photographer that day. To optimize my time, I continued the search on my smartphone. And at each stop light (much to my husband’s chagrin) I shoved my phone in my husband’s face demanding, “What do you think about this one??” If he liked what he saw, the URL was copied and sent in an e-mail cataloging potential photographers. It is an understatement to say that morning, I was obsessed. The obsession didn’t subside when I arrived at my friend’s home. But knowing we had business to get to, I put my phone away, pulled out my notes, poured a cup of coffee and sat down ready to work. That is until a friend and colleague walked through the door. When she did, I stopped the conversation I was in dead in its tracks realizing why the bug had struck. Across the room I blurted, “Colin is a photographer.” And I knew I didn’t need to look any further. Who is Colin? Her son. And yes, he is a photographer and a very good one at that. I was fairly confident I now knew what Spirit had in mind. We were meant to ask Colin to do our baby shoot. But, to this point, he’d always focused on landscape photography. So I asked his mom if she thought he would be interested in doing a baby shoot. Turns out, he had recently turned his attention to doing some family photography. Coincidence? I think not! She gave us his card. As soon as we got home, I reached out to him. And sure enough, everything fell into place. Four days after Baby Girl was born he and his lovely assistant came out. And despite her fussing (she REALLY hated the flash), we got some amazing photos. Thank you Spirit and thank you Colin Collins! Comments are closed.
