Astrology fascinates me.
And, I have a great deal of respect for astrology practitioners. In my limited studies on the topic, I quickly recognized how much time and dedication it would take to learn all the nuances in order to be good. Respecting that, I’m always the first to admit I have learned just enough to be dangerous but it’s best to leave the real interpretations to the experts!!
Especially since the one thing about astrology I am certain of is – IT IS REAL. The planets really do exert forces that have an impact our lives. I witness the strength of the planetary forces every mercury retrograde when technology and communication goes askew. And, every full moon when people get a little emotional. It was especially apparent this past week when the full moon’s energy was amplified by a lunar eclipse. It seemed that everyone I ran into was feeling nostalgic and emotional.
Having witnessed this phenomena and because I’m a little superstitious, before my husband said our I dos seven years ago we consulted not one but TWO astrologers (Ellen Bourn and Amie Michaels). Why did we consult with them? We wanted them to identify the ideal moment for us to say our I dos in and effort to ensure marital success. We thought, hey any help from the universe we can get we’ll take it. And, one thing was for sure, it couldn’t hurt!!
Each astrologer took both my husband and my natal charts, overlaid them and then compared that to the upcoming year to find the perfect combination. This is where I get lost and overwhelmed. That’s why we left it to the experts.
We were grateful and AMAZED when each independently recommended a window between 11am and noon on Sunday, August 23rd. If that doesn’t say something about astrology being a science, I don’t know what does!
So why did both ladies choose August 23rd between 11am and 12noon?
In order to explain that, I should talk a little about the astrology basics… the stuff I feel confident about! Well, somewhat.
In the basics of astrology there are three important components that should always be taken into consideration: the Sun, Moon and Ascendant signs. In astrology, your sun sign is what we most often associate with. The day you were born indicates this, i.e. I was born on January 22 so I am an Aquarius. Your sun sign indicates what you show or shine to the outside world. Your moon sign, on the other-hand, indicates who you are when no one else is looking and is what an individual may try to hide. In a month, the moon will touch upon each of the twelve zodiac signs. Finally, the ascendant sign which is determined by which zodiac sign constellation is on the horizon at the moment of birth or an event, indicates who you are becoming. In a twenty-four-hour period, each zodiac is in the sky.
Now that you know that, let’s explore why Sunday, August 23rd between 11am and 12noon was ideal.
At the selected time, the Sun was in Virgo. Why was this good? First off, Virgo is an earth sign. This means that there is a focus on the home and the physical plane. This was important to my husband and I because both live much of our life in the spiritual realm. We viewed our marriage as a way to remind us of the importance of having a physical existence. We found this concept so important that we chose to engrave our wedding bands with the phrase, “As above, so below.” Additionally, traits typically associated with Virgo includes faithfulness, dedication, practicality and hard work. All qualities desirable for a marriage. Not only that, Virgos rarely leave anything to chance and have clearly defined roles. In our marriage where the partnership exists both in the home and in business, this was an important component.
While Virgos are loving, they are not always warm and fuzzy. Fortunately, as both my husband and I are Aquarius which are known to be somewhat detached, this is not an issue. But, the moon sign which is in Libra, does bring a softness. Libra, like Aquarius, is an air sign. Air signs are about intellect and communication. This brings a fluidity and harmony to the relationships. Additionally, traits of Libras include diplomacy, cooperation and balance. For a marriage this is ideal because we will always be working together to find balance.
The Ascendant at the time of our marriage was also Libra. As a Libra Ascendant was desirable, we HAD to be pronounced husband and wife between 11am and 12noon. Why was this important to us? Libras make ideal partners and as an Ascendant this describes what our relationship could become. Libra on the ascendant provokes each of us to strive to grow into better partners. What better goal for a marriage?
After hearing this analysis, how could we not choose this time! Fortunately, it also aligned with when out-of-town family members were already planning on visiting. SERENDIPITY!! Only downfall, trying to explain to people why we were having the reception before the vows AND trying to get people to not call us husband and wife. To this day, some of my husband’s family still rolls their eyes thinking about quirky Dawn.
All I have to say to those eye rolls, we’re seven years in and still going. Is it the astrology? Maybe, maybe not. I choose to believe it is.
As feng shui is a philosophy that connects an individual and his surroundings, if an individual is commenting how busy or chaotic his life is, the feng shui practitioner will encourage that individual to evaluate the state of his home environment. As it is likely that individual will find his home cluttered or messy, the recommendation the feng shui practitioner would offer is that the individual organize the space and get rid of unnecessary stuff!
Now, I by no means am an expert or aficionado of feng shui. Nor is it something I put a lot of thought or consideration into on a day to day basis. This is much to the chagrin of a dear friend who IS a feng shui practitioner. Every time she comes to my home she finds more and more places in our house where the Qi (energy) is blocked – thank you Ernie.
As I mentioned, this rarely concerns me. But recently, I have found the energy has been blocked. And I’ve realized I do need to take some action so the blocked energy didn’t continue to have a negative impact on my life.
What’s been disrupting the energy? The clutter! You see, my daughter who is almost two now, is (as you’d expect) becoming more and more active and inquisitive. As a result, it is not uncommon to find toys strewn across the house. For example, the sight I see when emerging from my back room after a day of readings often includes kitchen utensils lined from one end of the kitchen to the other, hundreds of balls filling the living room floor (she has a ball pit she loves), diapers (fortunately they are clean) in a pile next to the chaise because that’s where she likes to change her baby’s diaper and one diaper just won’t do, and several piles of books on the bathroom floor next to her potty, need reading material in the bathroom, after-all. Not surprising, right?
Being a neat freak, this sight immediately results in my heart beating faster and my temperature rising in frustration. But then I see my tired, weary husband in the chair and know that this mess just demonstrates our daughter’s activity and the fun she has had. With that recognition, my heart melts a little… but the clutter still leaves me with a little anxiety and energetically I feel a little discombobulated.
Feeling the chaos from the mess, I would straighten up some. But then I would rationalize that I was wasting my time, everything was going to be pulled out again anyways, so I’d leave some. Which left me uncomfortable, but I tried to ignore those feelings.
Those feelings made me feel overwhelmed. And I began to think that it didn’t matter how clean the house got, it would always seem messy. Overwhelmed by the volume of household chores and everything I “had” to do, cleaning started to become neglected.
As you can probably guess, this just spiraled.
When I realized the new tub hadn’t been scrubbed in weeks if not over a month and this was causing me more and more anxiety, I realized SOMETHING had to be done. About two months ago, I took action.
What did I do? Exactly what most individuals of my generation do, I went to Pinterest.
Why Pinterest? Because you can find ANYTHING there.
What did I find? A to-do list of what chores to do every day, once a week, once a month, etc. Looking at this list, the chores that had once seemed overwhelming now seemed feasible. Now in my house on Mondays I vacuum; Tuesdays the bathroom gets cleaned AND because it is garbage day, the refridgerator gets cleaner; Wednesdays the kitchen gets attention; Dusting falls on Thursday; Friday I get a break; and then on Saturday and Sunday the laundry gets done and some of the other chores fall into place. With this new system, I end up only spending 15 to 60 minutes a day cleaning instead of the hours I used to. Sure it adds up, but in little spurts it is Doable.
You might be thinking, where does feng shui fit into all of this? Now that the house is cleaner, it is also decluttered. Well, for the most part. Baby Girl’s toys are still strewn about. My hubby still has a tendency to sprawl… But, the space looks better. Creates better energy around us. And best of all, my life feels less chaotic and my anxiety has faded. Is this me becoming in harmony with my environment? Have I found some feng shui? I like to think so!

Ever have a period in your life where things just seem magical and one thing after another seems to effortlessly fall into place? Now, I recognize that in many instances, circumstances falling into place is often a case of hard work and perseverance… but it’s nice to think that something greater is at play when it happens and it probably is.
The effortless alignment of goals and tying up of loose ends has been what my husband and I have experienced all week. Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, my husband and I have been waiting to fall into place and be tied up, has done just that.
It started Monday. A few months ago, my husband had a minor medical procedure. The procedure went well and he is fully healed, but we’ve been waiting anxiously for the post-op results to ensure he’s in the clear. Early Monday morning he finally had his follow-up and tests were run. We had cause for celebration when tests came back negative that afternoon! Woo hoo!!
We were expecting those results Monday. But, having the scientific documentation was still a weight off our shoulders and we could breathe a little easier.
On Tuesday, the streak continued. I was thrilled when I opened my mail and saw a sizable bill from my daughter’s health insurance company. You might be thinking, is she crazy? A bill is not usually something to get excited about (especially a sizable one)! But, in this case it meant that a clerical issue I have been battling the insurance company and NYS Health Exchange to rectify since the beginning of the year (check out this Blog and Video for more) has FINALLY been resolved. Thank you Assemblyman Ray Walter and your office for the help!
Not only that, my husband received an unexpected letter that day as well. Enclosed in this letter was a check. A small inheritance from his grandmother’s passing, that a family member generously passed on to us as he believed it would have been what my husband’s grandmother would have wanted. This check just happened to cover our bill. Have I mentioned, Spirit always takes care of us?
When Wednesday rolled around, after receiving a phone call he said to me – “Damn girl, you’re on FIRE this week.” Who called? The NYS Attorney General’s office. You see, we’ve had a problem with a contractor who did some work on our home last year. After being nickel and dimed to get the job done right, the job was never completed nor was it done well. Despite promises in the fall when it was getting too cold to complete that he would come back this year to finish the job and promises from him in the early summer to not only complete the job and fix the problems that are already arising, no work has been done and we haven’t heard from him since. With the problems getting worse, we took action. That’s why the AG was calling my husband. He had filed a consumer complaint and they called wanting to take a statement as they intend on moving on our complaint with hopes of getting our money back.
More movement forward!! I can’t wait to see how long this tide lasts. But I’m also not going to worry about it ending either. I’m going to enjoy it for as long as it lasts… and I’ll keep saying my prayers, my affirmations and taking action on my goals!
We are never alone. Our deceased loved ones and our guides are ALWAYS with us.
This fact has never been lost on me. As a child I remember my family talking about our loved ones being around. In high school, I knew my grandmother was with me as she would routinely turn off electronics (lights, computers, televisions – you name it) to tell me it was time for bed as I routinely burned the midnight oil. And as I have grown my business, I see my clients deceased loved ones without fail, showing up to talk to their loved ones!
Despite knowing they are always around or perhaps because their presence is routine, I sometimes forget how profound this really is. Recently, however, I have been in awe as to how amazing it is. What brought it on? I’m seeing their (deceased loved ones and guides) interaction with my daughter.
Baby Girl is now twenty-two months old. There was a time not too long ago (check out this blog) where we worried that our intuitive lifestyle was going to hinder her verbal vocabulary. We aren’t worried about that any longer. I hear many parents lament, "we wanted so much for them to start talking and then you just want for them to be quiet." This is becoming very true in my household. Baby Girl is chattering up a storm. And I now know why she spoke minimally. She didn’t want to be a monkey and just parrot what we said back. Nope. She wanted conversation – or adequately, she wanted to be able to express her needs, wants and desires. She skipped over nouns and went right to actions. Her favorites being – more, let go, and please (because with THIS one she knows her father and I can’t resist her).
But I digress, let’s get back to the conversation of Spirits always being around. You see, my daughter has taken to communicating with not only living people, but also the Spirit people. She does it in the backyard. We will be playing in the driveway with chalk or her car and she’ll suddenly become distracted by something in the yard. She’ll get up, start waving, say “hi!” and walk into the grass. My first thought is always, one of our neighbors must have walked outside. Nope. No one is there. But she is still talking and giggling. It’s only after I turn on my sixth sense that I realize it is a loved one or one of her guides.
This has also happened while having a tea party. With her little teapot, she has poured both she and I a cup of tea. BUT THEN, she’ll take and pour a third cup of tea. With a “here you go,” she places the third cup at the empty seat at her table. She’s leaving it for someone! Again, only after turning on my spidey senses do I realize it’s my dad’s grandmother.
My husband and I have become accustomed to Baby Girl’s visitors. Her sitters are still getting used to it. When picking her up from my aunt’s, I can always tell if Baby Girl has not been alone. My aunt doesn’t have to even blurt out, “Dawn… she did it again,” because her face says it all – her big eyes, shaking hands. She’ll then recount how our daughter held a lengthy and animated (she is like her mother, talks with her hands) conversation with someone – someone no one else sees.
Every time I assure my aunt not to worry. And encourage her, that even I don’t always see (without asking at least) who Baby Girl is talking to. But, when I do see… it’s always someone loving.
It will be interesting to see how this continues to develop…
