There are some days I kick myself and ask, “Why didn’t you listen to Spirit?” Today was one of those days.
In the next month, both Don and I are celebrating birthdays. With baby girl at three and a half months, we thought it would be a great time to get away for a night. My mom and aunt enthusiastically volunteered to have a sleep over with the little one, and his mom traded in hotel points to get us a room in Niagara Falls.
Everything was all set and we started the day by going to a new, hip bar for “Booze and Bagels.” The food and drinks were great. As we lingered over coffee, we debated how we would spend the rest of the day. We threw around the idea of going to a museum, seeing a movie, hitting a winery, but ultimately decided the Seneca Niagara Casino as it was right across the street from the hotel.
Soon as we made the decision, I heard “Play Little Red Riding Hood… You’ll win BIG.”
At around 5 o’clock, we headed over and had a great dinner at the buffet. Afterwards, we wandered the casino. Choking on the smoke, we made a bee-line to the non-smoking section. Once there, I felt the need to pee and handed my purse to Don. On my way out of the bathroom, I stopped dead in my tracks and pointed to my husband in a loud whisper – “There IT is. Lil Red.”
A woman was sitting there. So we stalked the machine and once the two machines next to her freed up, we sat down there. As soon as we did, the one I sat at paid out. Not a lot, about $20. But the woman on Lil Red turned to me and said, “I’ve been waiting for mine to do that!”
It was obvious she wasn’t going to budge from Lil Red, so after a few more spins on my machine, we got up and moved. I thought, maybe the message was meant to direct me to the machine next to Lil Red.
After leaving Lil Red, Don and I wandered the casino aimlessly. I couldn’t get Lil Red out of my head. I searched to see if there was another one, but there wasn’t. Tired of my randomness, Don went to the bathroom. When he didn’t come back right away, I made my way back and found him on none other than Lil Red. He told me he had the feeling and was holding the machine for me. At that point however, he’d dropped almost $20 (our individual playing allowance) into the machine. I thought he was foolish for doing that and urged him to walk around the casino.
We bounced from one machine to another. I’d sit down, the machine would pay out and then we’d move on to another. Once we more than doubled our money, we felt pretty good and cashed out. My philosophy is always, stop while you’re ahead and don’t get greedy!
On our way out, we passed Lil Red. Couldn’t help but notice it and my jaw dropped to the floor. The lights were flashing and we could see that the payout was up to 12,000 credits and wasn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Just as Spirit has said, Lil Red was winning big.
The rest of the way out, in the car to a drug store for drinks, back to the hotel and in the elevator up to our room I couldn’t talk, I was just so flabbergasted. Don couldn’t help but laugh and say “You should have listened to Spirit. They’re teaching you a lesson. Not only to listen, but to be grateful for what you did receive.”
And he was right. While we didn’t win big… we DID double our money, which covered dinner and snacks. Another thing is for sure, I’m going to be sure to listen to Spirit moving forward.
Some people are weirded out by me in that they incorrectly believe I’m always reading them. Because I believe that reading a person without his/her permission is no better than eavesdropping, my rule of thumb is that unless asked, I don’t read you. My family and friends know my rule. So does Spirit. Fortunately, MOST of the time, Spirit abides by this policy. However, every now and again a message is deemed by Spirit to be so important that they break my rule. That was the case today.
I was in my reading room preparing for the arrival of a couple of clients when my light meditation was interrupted by the ding dong of the doorbell. In that moment, a card from the tarot deck I was shuffling fell out. When a card jumps from the deck it is usually significant, so I peeked at the card – the seven of swords. To me, this card means the sitter needs to watch his/her back while at the same time leaving part of his/her arsenal behind. I cringed thinking “Eek, this will be a fun reading…”
After a few moments when my husband hadn’t ushered a client into my reading room I listened intently. I then heard a familiar giggle, our friend Courtney had stopped by. GREAT as if it wasn’t bad enough that I’d have to pass the message to a client, this card and message was for a friend who hadn’t asked for a reading! Splendid…
Knowing I had only a couple of minutes before my clients arrived, I flew into the house waving the card like a mad woman. I can only imagine what my husband and friend thought as I imagine I looked much like Helena Bonham Carter playing Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series as in an exasperated shout I exclaimed, “I have a message for you… do you want it or not?”
Fortunately, my friend was gracious and receptive to the message. After dumping it at her feet, my clients arrived and I was back to work…
*Update: A couple days later my friend text me “OMG, Dawn what you said was going to happen just did! I heeded your warning. Thank you!” As I mentioned at the beginning, Spirit knows when it's okay to break my rules... it appears, this was an instance where it was.
