3 Tips for Overcoming Ascensionitis

I love being a medium and feel blessed that I not only recognize but also know how to apply my intuition. I also believe YOU, yes YOU, are also a medium. The motivation for normalizing mediumship is two-fold. Selfishly, the mother in me wants my intuitive daughter to live in a world that embraces her gift. The humanitarian in me wants everyone to utilize their intuition because it makes life easier and more fulfilling.

Unfortunately, while connecting to one’s intuition makes life “easier” in the long run, it isn’t always a comfortable ride to get there. It can, and often does, hurt!

It is not uncommon for individuals that are becoming more aware of the energy around them to experience one of more of the following physical symptoms:
  • Headaches
  • Stomach Aches, most commonly cramping and nausea, but in rare cases it can be as significant as vomiting or diarrhea
  • Pressure behind or ringing in the ears
  • Disruption to one’s vision, such as seeing spots, wavy lines, blurred vision
  • Fatigue and inexplicable aches
  • Sensitivity to scents and tastes
  • Insomnia
  • Depression

I lovingly call these experiences ascensionitis.

You may be asking, “Why does ascensionitis happen?” It’s quite simple. Awakening your intuition starts by simply becoming more aware of your environment as your “sixth sense” is just an extension of your other five. As a result, as you focus on “sixth sense” you are just turning up the receptivity of the sensors to your other five senses.

When you first turn those receptors up, because you aren’t familiar with the vibrations or the subtleties of the information, it feels like a lot of noise and static. Despite feeling like noise, the awakening individual knows there is valuable information in that static. As a result, he or she strains to listen and decipher what those nuances mean. This is physically taxing, hence the physical pains.

Not sure what I mean? Think of it this way. Remember your own or a loved one’s experience after having a child. During those first few days (even weeks) the parent is acutely aware of EVERY sound that child makes AND it physically exhausts him or her. My husband often lovingly shares the experience of his first night with our daughter. He, to this day, vividly remembers the feeling of every breath, every movement, every sound. He also remembers how exhausted he was. It is burned into his memory. Why? Because his senses were in overdrive. This is what is happening when an individual experiences ascensionitis.

Fortunately, ascensionitis, like a parent’s experience immediately following the child’s birth, doesn’t last forever. Just like the parent adjusts and becomes familiar with the rhythm of his or her child, an individual becomes familiar with the energies around him or her which minimizes the noise and discomfort one feels.

It is important to note, however, to become familiar requires active engagement and acknowledgement of the sounds. Again likening it to a parent, we all know an individual who was unable to discern the different nuances between his or her child’s cry. This individual finds him or herself in distress every time that child cries. Attention should be paid to understand the differences or else you will find yourself like that parent.

If you are dealing with ascensionitis, here are my tips to how to get through them:
  1. Be patient with yourself – becoming aware takes time.
  2. Listen – find time to pay attention to what you are feeling, be it through meditation, prayer, journaling, etc. Need more tips, check out this Blog or this one.
  3. Do something you LOVE – this distracts you from the physical discomforts and brings you back to the joys in life

As one last thought, be prepared to go through ascensionitis multiple times in your life. I recently went through another period of it… and it hurt. But, as soon as I became aware and used the couple tips, it became easier.
