3 Explanations as to What is Really Happening
Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. Such was the case with my California adventure. If you read this Blog, you know I was excited to be going out to California to speak at the Holistic Chamber of Commerce National Conference scheduled for October 20th and 21st with a meet and greet on the 19th.
Plans change. On October 12th, exactly one week before the conference was scheduled to kick off I received a call from the President of the Chamber informing me that the conference was cancelled. No clear reason, just that it was off.
My first response was anger. With plans to arrive in LA in less than a week, the pricey flight and hotel arrangements were nonrefundable. So now not only had I invested a lot of money to attend but I was also I taking a week off during what is traditionally my busiest month AND I had already spent a good amount of time preparing for my role speaking and facilitating a conversation on blogging.
Once the initial frustration settled, I was baffled. Having assisted in the planning and execution of several multi-day conferences that each featured more than 30 speakers and brought in over 400 attendees, I could not wrap my head around HOW a conference of this scale could just be cancelled. Having planned conferences, I knew that at a week out there would have been expenditures that were non-refundable, such as venue deposits (if not the entire expense) to swag to keynote speaker fees. Not to mention the process of refunding (and explaining the situation to) the sponsors.
While trying to wrap my head around why the organization would make that decision was hard, I could see reasons. But where I REALLY got stumped was the universe’s motivation. The speaking engagement was not something I actively sought out. It was an opportunity that seemed to fall from the sky in my path. And for some time, all I could ask was, “Why?”
In response to that question, I have three answers:
The first is my husband’s take. He thinks it boils down to FREE WILL which he explained in the following way:
“Dawn, perhaps you were supposed to California and speak at the conference. Perhaps there were people you were supposed to meet and network with. But remember you are only one part of the equation, there are many parties involved and those parties have free will. Others decisions will impact you and they may not always be listening to their intuition or their highest and best is different.”
The free will in this case was that of the HCC’s President and her judgment as to whether or not the conference should occur. Perhaps the universe had aligned for me to be there and the universe assumed the conference was a go… and then it wasn’t.
That is one, potential. My friend has another idea. She suggested that I GOT THE MESSAGE BUT I DIDN’T UNDERSTAND THE WHY. Her thought of the why is that I just needed a vacation and this was the universe’s way of giving it to me. Perhaps the universe knew I wasn’t just going to take one so the universe was tricky and arranged it so that I would.
Both my husband and my friend made good points. And, it is completely possible that one or both are right. But I have a third option. I believe that there is something – perhaps a brief conversation I had with someone while there or someone saw my information in the advertisements for the conference or something I’m not even aware of – that will create an opportunity for me down the line. When we live our life by Spirit, the outcomes are not always a clear cause and effect. Rather, sometimes we cast our line and wait for the fish to snag the worm. It might be that day, a week or perhaps years later… but it connects somewhere.
So for now, I enjoyed my vacation and I am waiting.
Last weekend at the Happiness for Your Health Expo a young girl, curious about psychic coincidences yet at the same time incredibly skeptical, asked me if what I do is “real.” I love teenagers and young adults, because they don’t have the same filters adults have and will ask me blunt questions like this which results in an amazing dialogue.
Messages come in all shapes and sizes, you just have to be listening and paying attention. This past weekend I was reminded of this.
It was before the Happiness for Your Health Expo. I had arrived early to set up and was glad I did as it scored me an end spot! Once I was set up, more vendors (and all their merchandise) began to stream in which caused me to feel a little claustrophobic. Feeling crowded...
When thinking about when to release One: Unleashing the Energy that Connects All, I decided June 15th would be the date. Why the 15th? It made sense as it was day 100 day of 100 videos in 100 days. What better capstone to the challenge?
So, June 15th became my self-imposed due date for the release of the book.
With that date in mind, my husband and I worked with vendors to ascertain the last possible day files could be submitted for us to have printed materials in hand and ready to mail out to you great folks on June 15th. Each vendor indicated files needed to be submitted by June 6th.
Not wanting to take a chance, as with this type of thing there are bound to be issues, we decided to shoot to have everything submitted by June 1st. And we did.
It’s a good thing we submitted early, because we did hit some glitches.
Uploading everything to Amazon’s CreateSpace was a breeze. Besides a few minor details that needed to be adjusted, we received notification that we were good to go. The system is obviously designed to be user-friendly.
The same was not the case with the Special Edition copies. The Limited Special Edition copies of One are embossed with gold foil. To have the book imprinted with the gold foil, in addition to the cover file an additional file for placement of the gold foil was necessary. The requirements for this weren’t clear on the website. THANK GOD for my amazing graphic designed, Joe Babcock. He spoke with the company, and after getting in contact with the correct person it all got worked out. There were some file submission quirks that aren’t industry standard – all worked out… but, the hiccups set us back. The files submitted on June 1st weren’t approved for print until June 7th. This pushed the shipping date back from June 10th to the 14th… causing me to wonder (and worry), would the books get here by the 15th?
While not as harrowing, we hit a glitch with the CDs as well. We were a little behind schedule CDs and didn’t get these files submitted until June 4th. Still a couple days before the June 6th deadline, or so we thought. Turns out, once everything was uploaded to the system, the shipping notification we received informed us that our parcel would arrive between June 16th and June 21st. Worried, and thinking we would need to expedite the order (a more than $70 difference) my husband called. The kind representative who he had been working with assured him the CDs would arrive by the 15th.
With everything submitted, all we had left to do was wait.
Books arrived from CreateSpace books arrived immediately. We had them in hand on June 7th. We left them in their boxes, unopened… waiting on the others to arrive.
As the date creeped closer and closer to the 15th, I worried I might miss my deadline. On the 14th, I kept checking the tracking numbers and fretted the packages weren’t on their way. I hate missing a deadline, even if it is self-imposed. So, I prayed to Spirit. Asked the universe for a little help.
And they did.
On the morning of the 15th, the online tracking system indicated that the packages were on the truck and out to delivery. They were on their way. By 1pm, everything had arrived and with a little hustle everything was mailed.
This is a testament that sometimes even with the best laid plans, you need a little extra help from the universe. Thank you, Spirit!!
One place the muses like to talk to me is in the shower.
If you watched this video, you know that the shower is a great place to receive messages. Not only is it one of the few times during the day when I have time for ME and MY thoughts, but water is also a great conductor of spiritual energies.
Throughout my life, the conviction to move forward with important or creative decisions have always come to me while in the shower. For example, it was in the shower when I knew that my husband and I would find the house of our dreams. After the shower, I hopped online to search the MLS listings. Sure enough, there was our house. It was also in the shower when I had the inspiration for Where Is Dawn Lynn? The stroke of genius that occurred in those situations happen about once a month.
That is until about two months ago. Since then, the muses have been working overtime. Every Single Time I hit the shower, my to-do list gets longer. In fact, my husband has told me he likes my stink and perhaps I should go longer between showers… I think he just doesn’t want HIS to-do list to get longer.
Wondering what some of these inspirations have been? Here are a few examples:
100 Videos in 100 Days
My husband had ordered me the book, Known by Mark Schaefer, for either my birthday or Valentine’s Day. I was in the midst of reading that. While in the shower I realized I needed more consistency in my YouTube presence and thought, huh? 100 videos in 100 days. I can do that! Told my husband the day it started… might be one of the reasons he would prefer I don’t shower, it tripled his work load.
The Book Launch
Shortly after starting the 100 videos in 100 days, I was inspired to launch One: Unleashing the Energy that Connects Us All. The book itself wasn’t a new concept. I’d been working on it for about a year. But, the moment the inspiration struck I had no plan on when to release it. But, I was inspired to use the momentum of the 100 days for the book. Also, what better way to mark the end of the 100 days than with a party?
Handbook and Meditation CD
Once I was committed to the book launch, that little voice spoke again. This time it nudged me to create a supplemental handbook and meditation cd. Both make a lot of sense. In fact, my one reviewer recommended that the exercises be highlighted in the back of the book. And, I had been thinking about recording meditations in the past. Hadn’t planned on it for the book… but it makes sense. I’ve got the content. It will be a little... okay, a lot more work. But, I’m doing it.
Not sure I’m going to put this one into action or not, but because the premise of the book as the tag-ling suggests is energetic connections, I was hit with the idea of placing a couple books in locations for geocachers to find. This would be fun. Get the book in the hands of people who might not otherwise get the book. Downside? I have to hike to where the book is going to be placed. Would probably make a great Youtube video. Funny to watch. I’m not a great hiker and would probably fall a lot.
So, this one may be a little more of a day dream than an inspiration. I’d love to have Oprah read, endorse my book and have me on Super Soul Sunday. I had the vision of this happening after I sent her a lovely basket with the book, cd, goodies for while reading it and a One pendent, similar to the one my husband was inspired to make and I’m not supposed to know about. I see her wearing it as I sit on her couch. Might this happen? Who knows!
You may have noticed the them, all the inspirations I’ve had recently have been around One. I’m taking this to mean the universe is working overtime to help me out with the book launch. And trust me, I’ll take any help I can get. Which means, now through June 30th which is the day after the book launch party at the Tewksbury Lodge, I think I might end up taking a lot of showers.
Last week I spoke about synchronicity and divine timing. I’m going to continue that conversation in this Blog as I’m a big believer that the universe conspires to “help” a girl out. This includes introducing us to the right people at the right time.
If you recall my Blog entitled, Lining Up the Help, you’ll remember the universe introduced me to the midwife that delivered Baby Girl. They also led me to New World Gifts and Awakenings.
Seems like the universe is conspiring again…
This tale starts a few weeks ago. In order to improve the quality of my YouTube videos, my husband purchased a new camera. At the time we weren’t thinking of doing 100 videos in 100 days, another coincidence? But it turns out, this purchase was rather timely… Perhaps a story for another day.
Returning from that tangent. With the new camera, my husband found some of our old equipment was no longer necessary or complimentary. To recoup some of the equipment cost (camera equipment is expensive!), he placed the extraneous items on Craigslist.
One by one, piece by piece, lenses, tripods, and adaptors sold. As he passed these pieces along, he chatted each new owner up to see what their plans for the equipment was. Through these conversations, he met interesting individuals. Including a graphic designer who is currently in his final semester at Buffalo State College.
Impressed with this young man’s work, my husband asked for his card (never know when you might need a good designer!). Not only that he shared the card with me. At the time, I was preoccupied and tossed the card into a pile, not giving it a second thought.
But that interaction sat in my subconscious… waiting.
Fortunately, it didn’t need to sit there too long. A couple days later, I had a moment of inspiration. In that moment, I realized I would need a graphic designer for a project I am working on. Not only that, I’d need one fast.
Which is where the problem came in. The woman I normally turn to is currently under the weather, so I’d need someone different. Where would I find someone?
That’s when I remembered my husband had met this individual.
Immediately, I hunted around the house to see if I could find his card. Sure enough, it was where I placed it. First thought, hmmm… I like this card. Good first impression.
I then went to look at his website. Nice clean lines. His designs fit my taste.
Liking what I was seeing, I had my husband schedule a meeting (which if you watch my videos, you saw in Day 17). After talking with him, we entered into a contract for which Joe is currently sketching ideas for my… have you guessed it yet? If not, you need to be following all my media… project. I should have sketches in hand this week.
To think, this professional relationship all came about by selling some equipment on Craigslist. Who would have thought?
Timing is everything. When a circumstance is meant to be, it will be. But it will happen in its time.
Such was the case in a situation I encountered recently.
The story starts with my daily routine. Before I go to bed every evening, I check my e-mail and calendar to get a sense of my schedule and to-dos for the next day. The other day, my last appointment of the evening rescheduled their session after the 24-hour reminder. Seeing this, I was slightly pleased as I would be done with my day a little earlier than expected giving me time to take care of other business which included writing this Blog.
I mentioned the cancellation to my husband who commented, “Dawn, if you want it to stay that way, you should block off the rest of the evening so no one schedules.”
By this point we were having this conversation it was a little after 10pm. My calendar closes out at midnight, at which point no new appointments can be scheduled. With that in mind, I shirked off his recommendation feeling assured that no one was going to book. If in the off chance someone did book, I assured him and convinced myself the appointment was meant to be.
With that in mind, I put away the technology, completed a few more chores and went to bed.
On days I’m in my East Aurora office, I try not to do any business until I get to the office and instead focus my attention to my daughter. Such was the case this day, which meant I didn’t look at my calendar until I got to the office. At which point I discovered my husband was right (Damn his intuition)! Someone snuck into the vacancy left by the rescheduled appointment, just under the wire.
I begrudgingly smiled to myself. As I told my husband, if someone booked it was meant to be.
And after an exchange with my last client, I was affirmed this was the case.
When she walked in, during the small talk before the reading I mentioned to her it must be her lucky day as the appointment had only just become available late yesterday. I smiled further when she responded,
“I KNOW! I’ve been trying to book an appointment with you for the past few months. But between your schedule and mine, it hasn’t been able to line up. That is until last night. I was thrilled when I saw the 8pm this evening. It was too good to be true! I would have been happy with 8pm next week!”
She continued that she was certain she must have been mistaken and kept checking her e-mail and phone all day just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke.
But she was there, as were her loved ones and guides. It was the right time and they helped arrange the session. Had she checked my scheduler earlier in the day, the availability wouldn’t have been there. Or, had she waited until after midnight, she would have missed out on the opportunity. It is amazing how that works!
Ever have a period in your life where things just seem magical and one thing after another seems to effortlessly fall into place? Now, I recognize that in many instances, circumstances falling into place is often a case of hard work and perseverance… but it’s nice to think that something greater is at play when it happens and it probably is.
The effortless alignment of goals and tying up of loose ends has been what my husband and I have experienced all week. Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, my husband and I have been waiting to fall into place and be tied up, has done just that.
It started Monday. A few months ago, my husband had a minor medical procedure. The procedure went well and he is fully healed, but we’ve been waiting anxiously for the post-op results to ensure he’s in the clear. Early Monday morning he finally had his follow-up and tests were run. We had cause for celebration when tests came back negative that afternoon! Woo hoo!!
We were expecting those results Monday. But, having the scientific documentation was still a weight off our shoulders and we could breathe a little easier.
On Tuesday, the streak continued. I was thrilled when I opened my mail and saw a sizable bill from my daughter’s health insurance company. You might be thinking, is she crazy? A bill is not usually something to get excited about (especially a sizable one)! But, in this case it meant that a clerical issue I have been battling the insurance company and NYS Health Exchange to rectify since the beginning of the year (check out this Blog and Video for more) has FINALLY been resolved. Thank you Assemblyman Ray Walter and your office for the help!
Not only that, my husband received an unexpected letter that day as well. Enclosed in this letter was a check. A small inheritance from his grandmother’s passing, that a family member generously passed on to us as he believed it would have been what my husband’s grandmother would have wanted. This check just happened to cover our bill. Have I mentioned, Spirit always takes care of us?
When Wednesday rolled around, after receiving a phone call he said to me – “Damn girl, you’re on FIRE this week.” Who called? The NYS Attorney General’s office. You see, we’ve had a problem with a contractor who did some work on our home last year. After being nickel and dimed to get the job done right, the job was never completed nor was it done well. Despite promises in the fall when it was getting too cold to complete that he would come back this year to finish the job and promises from him in the early summer to not only complete the job and fix the problems that are already arising, no work has been done and we haven’t heard from him since. With the problems getting worse, we took action. That’s why the AG was calling my husband. He had filed a consumer complaint and they called wanting to take a statement as they intend on moving on our complaint with hopes of getting our money back.
More movement forward!! I can’t wait to see how long this tide lasts. But I’m also not going to worry about it ending either. I’m going to enjoy it for as long as it lasts… and I’ll keep saying my prayers, my affirmations and taking action on my goals!
We are never alone. Our deceased loved ones and our guides are ALWAYS with us.
This fact has never been lost on me. As a child I remember my family talking about our loved ones being around. In high school, I knew my grandmother was with me as she would routinely turn off electronics (lights, computers, televisions – you name it) to tell me it was time for bed as I routinely burned the midnight oil. And as I have grown my business, I see my clients deceased loved ones without fail, showing up to talk to their loved ones!
Despite knowing they are always around or perhaps because their presence is routine, I sometimes forget how profound this really is. Recently, however, I have been in awe as to how amazing it is. What brought it on? I’m seeing their (deceased loved ones and guides) interaction with my daughter.
Baby Girl is now twenty-two months old. There was a time not too long ago (check out this blog) where we worried that our intuitive lifestyle was going to hinder her verbal vocabulary. We aren’t worried about that any longer. I hear many parents lament, "we wanted so much for them to start talking and then you just want for them to be quiet." This is becoming very true in my household. Baby Girl is chattering up a storm. And I now know why she spoke minimally. She didn’t want to be a monkey and just parrot what we said back. Nope. She wanted conversation – or adequately, she wanted to be able to express her needs, wants and desires. She skipped over nouns and went right to actions. Her favorites being – more, let go, and please (because with THIS one she knows her father and I can’t resist her).
But I digress, let’s get back to the conversation of Spirits always being around. You see, my daughter has taken to communicating with not only living people, but also the Spirit people. She does it in the backyard. We will be playing in the driveway with chalk or her car and she’ll suddenly become distracted by something in the yard. She’ll get up, start waving, say “hi!” and walk into the grass. My first thought is always, one of our neighbors must have walked outside. Nope. No one is there. But she is still talking and giggling. It’s only after I turn on my sixth sense that I realize it is a loved one or one of her guides.
This has also happened while having a tea party. With her little teapot, she has poured both she and I a cup of tea. BUT THEN, she’ll take and pour a third cup of tea. With a “here you go,” she places the third cup at the empty seat at her table. She’s leaving it for someone! Again, only after turning on my spidey senses do I realize it’s my dad’s grandmother.
My husband and I have become accustomed to Baby Girl’s visitors. Her sitters are still getting used to it. When picking her up from my aunt’s, I can always tell if Baby Girl has not been alone. My aunt doesn’t have to even blurt out, “Dawn… she did it again,” because her face says it all – her big eyes, shaking hands. She’ll then recount how our daughter held a lengthy and animated (she is like her mother, talks with her hands) conversation with someone – someone no one else sees.
Every time I assure my aunt not to worry. And encourage her, that even I don’t always see (without asking at least) who Baby Girl is talking to. But, when I do see… it’s always someone loving.
It will be interesting to see how this continues to develop…
As a medium, I have the great pleasure of witnessing the love between individuals that literally extends beyond death. Unfortunately, in the world that we live where we experience travesties like the Orlando shooting that occurred this month, it is sometimes hard to remember that love remains. This past weekend, I was reminded of that love as I presided over a wedding for two very special people that transcended time and space – it just needed to find the right time.
Jim and Mandy, the couple I married, dated in high school. They were sweethearts and each-others first great love.
I was blessed to witness that coupledom. You see, I went to high school with them. Mandy and I graduated the same year. We went to an average sized high school, about 1600 students, so you “knew” just about everyone. But while we ran in similar circles; the three of us were in marching band together; we weren’t really friends. I do recall, however, Jim and Mandy were one of the marching band “It” couples. It was hard to deny they shared something special.
But is often the case with high school romances, they end. Jim and Mandy were young. They were foolish. They had their whole lives ahead of them. Lots of experiences to have, and mistakes to make. It wasn’t the time for them to find “the one.”
So Jim and Mandy went their separate ways. Jim joined the Navy and moved away. Both married. Both had children – three boys between the two of them! Both Jim and Mandy’s marriages ended. Both ended up back in Buffalo.
And in 2009, they reconnected. To each of their surprise, they found that spark, that love they shared in high school was STILL there.
Not able to deny the chemistry, they started dating. But both, having come from broken marriages, found it hard to be vulnerable. For the relationship to grow, both had to heal from their past relationships and navigate the new norm of raising boys with their now exes. In addition, not only did Mandy have to get to know the new Jim and Jim had to get to know the new Mandy, but Mandy also had to get to know the new Mandy and Jim had to get to know the new Jim. They had to find themselves again. AND, because they each had their respective children, they had to find where they fit into each-other’s lives.
It was hard stuff. And while they moved in together. It was not the time for marriage. While love grew… trust was harder to gain.
You see as time progressed, Mandy was drinking. A LOT. Jim loved her. She loved him. He supported her. But he didn’t trust her. Nor did she really trust herself. Mandy is the first to admit she wasn’t dependable – no one knew if it would be a good day or a bad day, so it was easier not to count on her. So while they were sticking it out, marriage wasn’t in their plans.
Then Mandy got sober. She attended AA and took care of (and began to love) herself. And things began to change.
The foundation of love, respect and trust was built. With her sober for more than two years, timing was FINALLY right. This Saturday, they were wed. Still crazy in love.
It is apparent that Spirit had a role in this. It is also apparent that divine timing definitely played a role in this.
What is also apparent is, divine timing did not occur as that momentary lightning strike. Instead, it was composed of a lot of hard work (and I’m sure laughter and tears) by both Jim and Mandy.
They both needed to evolve individually and as a couple (and now as a family). They weren’t ready in high school, or in 2009 when they started dating again, or even in 2014 when Mandy got sober – rather it took until now. Like the song Mandy walked down the aisle to, God Bless the Broken Road, the obstacles brought them back together.
So next time you find yourself trying to hurry events along, or complaining that circumstances aren’t playing out like you’d like them to. Remember everything happens for a reason and pause for a minute and reflect on what you may be rushing and ultimately missing out on.
A concept that has always amazed me is universal consciousness. What is universal consciousness? Also know as panpsychism, universal consciousness is the intelligent spider-web that connects every living (and non-living) thing in the universe. It can be used to explain synchronicities. It can also explain why individuals can independently come up with the SAME great at the SAME time.
Have you ever wondered how you and a colleague could come up with the SAME solution to a problem, even when the two of you aren’t working on the solution together? Universal consciousness.
Or why all of television networks are launching the same type of NEW programming? Be it reality tv or supernatural programs or legal dramas? They may have been snooping on each other. But it is more likely they all had the same idea (universal consciousness) and the spying on their competitors cemented what they were already planning on.
Universal consciousness can even be seen in scientific discoveries. For example, fission and fusion, new concepts around the time of World War I and II. While Teller and Oppenheimer are credited with their discovery, there is documentation similar research was occurring independently (and in secret) around the globe. Serendipity? More likely the universal consciousness at work.
It happens all the time. It actually happened to me this week!
The synchronicity actually began in 2014 while I was in the shower – that’s where I get my BEST ideas. I got the concept, “Where is Dawn Lynn.” And playing on the concept of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego or Where’s Waldo, it is exactly as it sounds – Where IS Dawn Lynn? A scavenger hunt, what’s more fun than that? The prize of course! The player who is able to “find” me, not only gets bragging rights but also wins a free/reduced rate reading.
I was so excited about this concept that I purchased the domain, I wrote up rules and guidelines, and even launched it. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to maintain the project and it fell to the back burner.
It was abandoned, but not forgotten.
Last month with prodding from my guides, I decided to re-launch it. To hold myself accountable, I announced the promotion in my April Newsletter. And come the first week of the month, I got right on it. First location, my alma mater, Allegheny College. The next week, was at Lotus Salon. Both times within the hour, someone had guessed!
It has been exciting and fun. AND, I’m looking forward to keeping it going.
You’re probably saying to yourself, “OK, that’s great… but where does the universal consciousness come in?”
Well I’m getting to that. You see this past weekend I noticed a Facebook posting from a colleague of mine is doing the same thing! Although we are connected via social media, I am ashamed to say I don’t really follow her so am uncertain as to whether or not the promotion has been done before. Or if Spirit who had been pushing me to do it had begun to push her as well. Or perhaps like T-Mobile and Sprint who saw Verizon’s ball commercial and thought it was brilliant, she saw me doing it and thought it was a great idea. Whatever the case may be, the universe really does seem to keep us connected with a universal thought.
Wonder what the next big idea will be!
The other day I was doing a Skype reading and feeling pretty good about it. The Spirit I was speaking with was the kind that makes my job easy (and makes me look good). He was chatty and supplied me with many specific details about himself without me having to prod.
I was on a roll and my client seemed to be very pleased. That is until the Spirit started talking about a ring. With this subject being raised, the woman suddenly got teary and told me, “We’ve been looking for that ring, but I don’t know where it is!”
The gentleman didn’t skip a beat and told me to tell her he kept it in a green velvet box. If she wasn’t able to easily find it, pull out the insert as it may have gotten stuck underneath.
Hearing this the woman jumped up from where she was sitting and from what I could gather as the camera bounced around, made a beeline across the room. After only a few moments of digging through her dresser, she found what she was looking for. I was dumbfounded with what she then showed me. Right before my very eyes was THE GREEN VELVET BOX.
Without hesitation, she opened the box and showed me the medals and family jewelry that was placed within. This box WAS where the Spirit had kept important items. She even pulled out the insert.
But to our dismay, the ring was not there.
Confused and upset, the Spirit became flustered. He repeated, “But that’s where I always kept it. It HAS TO BE IN THERE!”
At this point in the reading I was speechless. I was in awe over the Spirit’s clarity (Spirit never ceases to amaze me.) Yet, I didn’t quite know what to say to console my client or the Spirit as the information was correct, and then again it wasn’t. Because of this, I am certain I floundered.
In retrospect, I should have reminded her (and myself) that, “Your loved ones don’t become all knowing.” He obviously wasn’t. And, while our loved ones visit and keep an eye on us, they don’t watch us all of the time (which is probably a good thing!)
But it is important to remember that because they don’t watch us all of the time, they don’t always have all the answers or know everything that is going on. In this situation, the woman I was speaking with suspects the Spirit’s wife may have misplaced, lost or sold the ring he referenced. Unfortunately, he couldn’t bring clarity to where it is. Last place he saw the ring was in the green box. Perhaps now that it’s missing he’ll do a little searching… but in the meantime, hopefully knowing his intentions will bring my client some comfort.
Spirit has a funny way of putting what you need right in your path. Before Baby Girl was born, Don and I decided we wanted a photographer to come out to get some newborn shots. We’d been talked about it for some time and looked at images we’d like to recreate, but never decided upon a photographer. That is until one morning (still more than a month before my due date) when the urge struck me and I began researching newborn photographers in the Buffalo area like a fiend.
I did one google search after another, changing keywords until I hit that sweet spot. And then, as with any good research, I found myself checking out portfolio after portfolio; resume after resume.
I was on a mission. The fact that I had a meeting that morning didn’t derail me. I was determined to pick a photographer that day. To optimize my time, I continued the search on my smartphone. And at each stop light (much to my husband’s chagrin) I shoved my phone in my husband’s face demanding, “What do you think about this one??” If he liked what he saw, the URL was copied and sent in an e-mail cataloging potential photographers.
It is an understatement to say that morning, I was obsessed.
The obsession didn’t subside when I arrived at my friend’s home. But knowing we had business to get to, I put my phone away, pulled out my notes, poured a cup of coffee and sat down ready to work.
That is until a friend and colleague walked through the door. When she did, I stopped the conversation I was in dead in its tracks realizing why the bug had struck. Across the room I blurted, “Colin is a photographer.” And I knew I didn’t need to look any further.
Who is Colin? Her son. And yes, he is a photographer and a very good one at that.
I was fairly confident I now knew what Spirit had in mind. We were meant to ask Colin to do our baby shoot. But, to this point, he’d always focused on landscape photography. So I asked his mom if she thought he would be interested in doing a baby shoot. Turns out, he had recently turned his attention to doing some family photography. Coincidence? I think not!
She gave us his card. As soon as we got home, I reached out to him. And sure enough, everything fell into place.
Four days after Baby Girl was born he and his lovely assistant came out. And despite her fussing (she REALLY hated the flash), we got some amazing photos. Thank you Spirit and thank you Colin Collins!
You may have noticed over the past few weeks that your loved ones have been leaving you more signs or you feel their presences, or while you drive past a cemetery that there is a peculiar mist that lingers, or that you hear creaks, bumps and taps throughout the house. This is because the “veil” is thin resulting in an increase in Spirit activity.
What does this mean? Well first let me explain what the “Veil” is. It is the energetic barrier and boundary that separates the spirit realm from the physical one. This border ebbs and flows, thickens and thins. During this time of year, it is thinner which means it is easier for Spirits have an easy time transcending and walking between the realms.
Why does the Veil thin? There are a couple reasons. The first being that water weakens the Veil. Ever wonder why England and Ireland seem to have so many hauntings? Or why Spirits are often found in cellars? It’s not just because of the length of time the area has been settled or because it can be dark and spooky… these places are damp. And as we all know, the fall is damp. Hence the weather plays into the increased Spirit activity.
Another reason, and probably the more powerful one, is that with the Day of the Dead, Halloween, Samhain, All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day (all occurring this week) we honor and celebrate those who have passed. In some traditions, they even go as to invite those in the Spiritual realm to return and walk the earth again. The prayers and rituals are invitations to the other side and weaken the veil.
Hence the reason you may be feeling presences now. Your loved ones are coming to visit. It is important to know, however, that our loved ones aren’t the only ones that reside in the Spiritual realm. Our pets go there so you may hear the pitter patter of your long lost kitty or puppy; Faeries live there, and when they visit you may find your keys missing as they like to play pranks; the Angels visit sending “sparkles;” the Spiritual realms is also inhabited by a number of other creatures (some of which can be foreboding).
I’m pretty sure I met one a few Halloweens ago. It was our first Halloween in the house and my husband, a Halloween junkie, was so excited! He left work early to get ready to hand out candy. He dressed up in one of his spooky get-ups, turned Pandora to the Halloween station and waited. Five, Six, Seven o’clock came and went. With no kids to be seen.
Disappointed and deflated, he finally left his post around 8 o’clock because he had to run to the bathroom. By this point, Pandora had been switched off and we were watching Netflix. I’d gotten into my jammies and was enjoying a nice glass of red wine.
When he left his post he muttered, “You’re on candy duty. Not that it matters… no one is coming.”
But, he was wrong. It was during those few minutes he was in the bathroom that the doorbell rang.
A little startled I stumbled up and made my way the door (half expecting to find one of my new neighbors standing there). But nope, there was a werewolf greeting me.
This single trick or treater, obviously an older kid (he was easily 6 foot) stood standing in the doorway and made me a little uneasy. One he seemed to be a little old for trick or treating… And, it struck me as odd that he would be out by himself… I dismissed these thoughts thinking, well it is free candy.
But the trepidation didn’t leave as I continued to approach the door. For he continued to stand there, but said NOTHING. No trick or treat. Or Happy Halloween. I was met with just a grunt. I tried to shake it off and did my duty, I placed the candy in his bag… which resulted in another grunt (I assumed a thank you). And trying to lighten the situation, I chirped “Happy Halloween” and walked away.
When I resumed my position in my comfy chair, blanket around me and glass of wine at the door, I glanced at the front door and was unnerved when I saw him still lingering in the doorway. Where he let out another grunt and then ambled off.
Moments later when my husband came out, I recounted the strange occurrence mentioning he almost didn’t feel human. He was bummed he missed our one trick or treater of the night. He also found it odd that he saw no one on the street, despite having the visitor just moments before.
For weeks, this encounter creeped me out. So when I had the opportunity to talk to my neighbors I mentioned how we were disappointed we didn’t get more than one trick or treater and that it was odd that it was an older kid. She responded, “Yeah we don’t get kids on this street. We are out of the way. I’m surprised you even had the one… I didn’t get any this year!”
Her response made me question… Was this werewolf a person, or could it have been a Spirit transcending the worlds? We wear masks and make up on Halloween to conceal our identities and protect us from spooks. And they conceal themselves from us. Was this really a spook I encountered? If so, what could he have wanted?
In the end, I guess I’ll never know. But it does make always make me wonder, who is really under the mask? Enjoy your Halloween….
Let’s talk orbs… They’ve popped up in random conversations three times over the last few weeks, so apparently it’s a topic Spirit wants me to cover!
First off, what is an orb? An orb is a sphere (or sometimes cone or tube) of light that is considered to be a physical manifestation of Spirit. They can be seen with the naked eye, but are more commonly caught by the camera. Seems like everyone has that a picture that has an inexplicable speck of light in it that could be a Spirit. And, many people go on ghost walks in active locations in hopes of catching an orb on film. Want to find out more about orbs? Click here.
When we talk orbs, my husband always rolls his eyes. Having been a semi-professional ghost hunter for years and with his technical knowledge as a semi-professional photographer, he is able to explain away 99% of orbs. They can be specks of dust. Or moisture in the air could cause a distortion of the flash. Also, depending on the camera there could be flare off of its lens. There are tell-tale signs for each of these situations. With his experience, he can identify these signs in a moment and usually the individual with the photo walks away with disappointment or disbelief.
I, on the other hand, understand NONE of the technical components. Rather, I feel the energy of the photo. Again, I don’t see things in many photos.
The orbs that are caught on film can often be easily explained way. Orbs visible to the naked eye, however, that’s a WHOLE other story.
My aunt (the same one who has the weird experience with the photograph! Didn’t read that blog, go here!), actually saw one about a month ago. She, like many people I talk to, was unsettled by what she saw. When these show up people wonder if there is something wrong with their eyes. Could they be going crazy? Are they seeing things? Or worse yet… could it be a serious condition like a brain tumor? Of course any of those options could be the case. But, it could also be that the orb was the REAL DEAL.
Fortunately, before she ran to the doctor… she was able to ask me a few questions. She broached the topic one day when we were spending some time together. I knew something was up, but knew she’d ask when she was ready. That didn't happen until we hit the light at the corner immediately before my street. Probably knowing it was now or never, she turned to me and blurted out, “Dawn. I have to ask you something. I think I might be going crazy. You see, the other day while I was washing dishes at the sink and this ball of light, about this BIG.” Imagine her lifting her hands off the steering wheel to demonstrate a ball about the size of a grapefruit. “Came whizzing past my face.” Again, imagine her demonstrating… and now imagine my face, as I glance over my shoulder to look at Baby Girl in the back seat! “Dawn. It was so clear. AND SOLID. I was certain it was going to hit me, so I moved out of the way. Then it POOF! Disappeared? Is that even possible?!? Was I seeing things?”
To calm her nerves, I first spoke to her about orbs to let her know they aren’t just in photos. And the REAL ones YOU CAN usually see! I also asked a few more questions to find out what else might be going on.
Well, it turns out there has been A LOT going on. It was my opinion that someone was been trying to say hi. We’re also pretty sure we’ve figured out who. I gave her a name, and she had a “talk” with him… Since then, it’s been quiet.
So that’s orbs folks! When they do pop in, it’s someone (or something – could be an angel, a guide, a pet)… saying HI!
